A genie getting dressed in her bottle. Aside from the obviously sleeveless mandarin jacket everything else is ‘Arabian Nights’. I don’t know why I made her jacket like that, it just felt right. But hey, genie’s get around, don’t they? She liked it. Who says all genies have to dress like it’s 120degrees in the shade?

georgous. Is there that much room in bottles? I want one then. I like the clothing though. She's a genie with a brain- very uncommon.

:-) Sandra Leigh Wagner replies: "its that whole bigger inside than outside thing! I kinda like her too!"

It looks like she's thinking "I suppose I'd better go help the mortals again" or something like that. I like the clothes, sexy without being too revealing, as most people show genies.

:-) Sandra Leigh Wagner replies: "thank you. I kinda liked this outfit, though I'm partial to the scanty clad djinn as much as the next person!"

Great picture, what I really like is how you drew the inside of her bottle reminds me of the old "I dream of genie" t.v show.Great work and I love the brush and comb on the floor, very nice touch.

:-) Sandra Leigh Wagner replies: "thank you. though I saw this more as a curtained bed, and wasn't thinking of I Dream of Jeanie at all. Thank you for commenting. I love it when old peices still get commentary"

ok, um yeah not everything is arabian nights, beacause she doesn't even look Arab. Why do white ppl have such a big problem with drawing Arabs?!

:-) Sandra Leigh Wagner replies: "maybe because we have no common visual models? and for the record, not all belly dancers are arab. there are Greeks and Hindu and well... I was a belly dancer. And I'm mostly white, part Spanish and part Amerindian. not all belly dancers are nonwhite. besides these were character sketches, and the characters, while living in an arabesque environ, were 'white'. And if you are planning on making snide remarks about Alia being milky skinned, she is Ancient Persian, who were the ORIGINAL CAUCASIANS!! ie WHITE. where do you think the Aryans came from... Persian and other areas of indonesia. Get your facts straight and open your mind."

I think she is beautiful. How do you draw veils like that? I have been trying to draw viels right for about 2 months by now. I cannot get the veil to look transparently colored, like your green one! it is sooooo frustrating! Anyway, I think the picture is amazing. The jewel/bead decoration in her hair is wonderful.

:-) Sandra Leigh Wagner replies: "thank you. The trick with veils is to maximixe your medium. Each medium's trick will differ slightly. The main thing (for most mediums, watercolor especially) is to paint what's under the veil first (may not work with oils as the paint takes too long to dry). Then you thin your veil medium (with pencils or crayon just color lighter rather than darker. In Photoshop, use layers and play with the layer transparency), and fill in the area to be veiled. Remember to use a darker color (and thicker color) in folds for shadows and overlaps of the fabric and a lighter tint for highlights and viola! Good luck!"

Thank you soooo much! I tried doing what you said with the viel, and it looks 200 x better than my others! thanks again! you were a big help.

:-) Sandra Leigh Wagner replies: "Welcome!"
