SciFi and Fantasy Art: Alia Dancing with her new Toledo ShamsirsAlia has just received from her master, Vittorio, the gift of two Shamsirs (scimitars)forged by Spanish masters of the famed Toledo steel. In his small antechamber, where he is playing chess with his ancient friend Casseadorus, she dances with them, testing their weight and balance while Persephone watches from the window, lust in her eyes. Alia is full of rapture, in love with the way they move and feel in her hands. Her hair is free, flowing in the air as her body arcs, stubbornly refusing to reflect light as always. Vittorio watches on, the queen in his hand forgotten as Casseadorus makes his move. Little does Alia know how handy these weapons will be... in a matter of hours in fact, she will be grateful for the silver worked into the Damascene blades......
A scene from chapter 5 of my story In the Shadows of Death. done in Poser 4 with alia's hair painted completely in postwork | |
 | | | | | Date | Name | Comment | | | 29 Jun 2004 | Rachel Pierce | OMG i have that sword too!!! This work is great! keep it up! Sandra Leigh Wagner replies: "wonderful prop that elven sword, the exact shamsir I needed. I don't think its a questor though... its a freebie. and so way cool" | |
| 29 Jun 2004 | Lei Wang | Beautiful. There's such a sense of movement, especially in the hair. Sandra Leigh Wagner replies: "Thank you. I did what I could. It took me forever! I did this as an illustration for her story which is in the library. (In the Shadows of Death) if you are interested." | |
| 6 Jul 2004 | Sarah Colley | Nice I think even more postwork in PS to give it a little more painted feel and less computer might be nice though. It just seems like it needs a softer touch. Sandra Leigh Wagner replies: "thanks but if I did that, I might as well paint the whole thing and no thank you. I like the live look of it. what it needs is more shadows" | |
| 6 Jul 2004 | Madalaine McCabe | wow! this is fantastic! I love the swords and her clothing, the lighting is fantastic too. Sandra Leigh Wagner replies: "thank you. The lighting took the longest, let me tell you. I HATE doing the lighting" | |
| 8 Jul 2004 | Unicornsodeepwithin | Awesome, but the swords almost look idenical to Arwen's. Sandra Leigh Wagner replies: "thanks, but um... So what? They are not drawn or painted, they're a PROP! A physical (and free) item that was made by someone and used in THOUSANDS of other people's renders. It is not "Arwen's" sword. It is an elven sword that was the closest thing I could find to represent a Persian Shamsir (Scimitar). And why the heck am I justifying myself to someone who won't even see this as they failed to link an address?" | |
| 11 Mar 2006 | Emo-girl-shannon | This is really cool if u could make you knew someone who makes games u could make pics n like the characters for them i think alot of your pictures look like they should b in a game this pic is like an adventure game am i right? Sandra Leigh Wagner replies: "actually, no. (as far as I THINK I understand what you mean to say ?) This was made using a 3D computer program and enhanced with photoshop (I had to do her hair manually) This is an illustration for a novel I'm working on, not an adventure game or whatever. It's titled In the Shadows of Death" | |
| 28 Jul 2006 | Anonymous | the swords are beautiful. the baggy pants and jewelry are GREAT!!! Sandra Leigh Wagner replies: "thank you. she's one of my favorite subjects" | |
| 23 Nov 2006 | Natalie Adams | Those knives are wik-ade! Sandra Leigh Wagner replies: "knives? KNIVES!! Ignorant mortal speck of......" | |
| 12 Jan 2007 | Jay w simcox | A great scene you'v composed here. Theres always something very provocative for me about the image of a woman dancing with blades. A woman being the symbol of life (the ability to give birth and so on) and wielding swords (suggesting the ability bring death). Life and death in one beautifully stimulating package. Something very poetic about her master, Vittorio, being distracted from his game of chess by her, and i love the expression on her, like she has no idea, or even care of the effect shes having on the onlookers. Sandra Leigh Wagner replies: "lol. Nail on the head. Mythology is full of women who are both life and death (The Indian Kali for instance) and they evoke a terror unlike any implacable male god of death I know." | |
