SciFi and Fantasy Art: Olivia

This is an illustration of the main character of my novel Love In Ruins. This will be added as an illustration to Chapter 10. The character is physically 19 but carries herself as much older as she would be expected to having been raised as a Senator's daughter in Ancient Rome. She was made into a vampire in Pompeii less than two months before Vesuvius erupted and trapped her beneath hardened ash for nineteen hundred years. She has recently been found and awakened and is having to adjust...

I sacrificed two nights of sleep for this one. It was an obsession. I hope she was worth it!

Ok, so she was worth. ^-^! If you want to be informed of updates to this gallery or my others, tell me in your comment or ping me an email or IM me if I'm on. I'm making a list!

She looks positively incredible. Well done! I love her face. I haven't read your story yet, but if you are as good an author as you are an artist, I expect it will be excellent.
Kudos and cookies for you!

:-) Sandra Leigh Wagner replies: "*blushing furiously and trying to get her muse to stop preening.* Well, on my main artist page there is a link to my library where you can read my works in progress. Olivia's story you'll have to buy on Amazon (or fictionwise etc.)"

That is such a cool story! I love how she just seems flow~~~~
I'll be keeping an eye out for your novel! ^_~

:-) Sandra Leigh Wagner replies: "thank you! I was particularly fond of the faded fresco look I managed, though I still think she's too light (no depth of shadow). May repaint it one day. Though the story is published (but not in stores) You can find Love In Ruins by Sandra Leigh at Amazon.com and Lulu."

maybe you should rename her as Helena of Troy. I belive that anyone could accept it, even Hera.

:-) Sandra Leigh Wagner replies: "I am deeply flattered that you would compare her to Helen. But renaming the painting is out of the question. She is the character from my published novel Love In Ruins."

Very classical pose 19) Sounds like an interesting story too, you don't often hear of vampires and Rome in the same context ;o) I'm curious, what medium is this in? I *think* I can tell it's computer painted, but in some places it looks maybe hand-painted...I always think it's a good sign when you can't really tell 19)

:-) Sandra Leigh Wagner replies: "*blush* it DOES kinda have that fresco/watercolor look to it doesn't it? One of the reasons it's so light in places. I was terrified of screwing it up by putting more shadows in. I decided to leave her looking more frescoish. And for the record: that's photoshop. All but the original sketch."

She is very pretty. I like her dress, and her hair. The story is pretty cool, too.

:-) Sandra Leigh Wagner replies: "thank you. Her novel is available online (Love In Ruins) from Fictionwise.com if you want the whole story."

hi hello..beautiful pic. will get to it later. ah, yes. vampire love and ancient Rome...where have i read that before? oh, yes. Anne Rice! i'm actually reading hers "Blood and Gold; the vampire Marius" right now..
just a little comment to what erin above me said 12

but back to your art. it is very gorgious. the vampires i'm reading about seem to fit this exact picture..reminds me of Eudoxia, only with blonde hair. sorry, drifting again. anyhow, i think you have done a VERY good job on her. her pose is lovely and the shading likewise. ^_^
one little detail though, her belt. it seems not to touch her body/waist. O.o oh, heck! i feel so guilty now. (pls DON'T visit my gallery...aaahh!)
i love your picture. don't get me wrong, please ^_^
wonderfully done and definitely worthy of that little star on top 12
keep it up!

:-) Sandra Leigh Wagner replies: "Thank you for your kind comments, though there are a hundres things I would do differently if I dared to redo this.As to the Blood and Gold reference... Never read it, sorry. I am referencing Love In Ruins, my own novel published in 2004, and which I began writing around 2001/2002, and whose story began playing through my head as far back as at least 1998, though the idea for the main character has been prancing through my head in one form or another since 1992. I can honestly say I have not read an Anne Rice vamp novel since Body Thief (which I never finished. It somehow turned me off before I got through the first few chapters) I have not read any of her Roman vamps, so I am afraid I don't know what you are talking about. Olivia, the vampire here, is from my novel Love In Ruins, along with Jamie McLeod, a highlander/former clan chief who enters her life and turns it upside down (though McDonald is the one who tries to gut the affair), but whom my muse will never consent me to depict, sadly enough."

I really like the story to this! not just because i love vampires but because i never really thought about a vampire from the age of the roman empire. Anyway Love this keep this up!

:-) Sandra Leigh Wagner replies: "Thank you. You can actually buy a copy of the book: Love In Ruins (under the name of Sandra Leigh) at Fictionwise.com (and just about any place that sells ebooks. though through Lulu.com you can get the tradepaper back.)"

:-) Sandra Leigh Wagner replies: "thank you. The book has gotten some very good reviews"

’Mazing coloring, pose and shading. I really like how the hair and background kinda seems being made of another material - it’s really nice.
Just like Amrita Kareer I got thinking of Anne Rice - kinda Gabrielle or somethin. I like your story idea too, seems really cool.
