SciFi and Fantasy Art: Reality CheckThis is a superhero that I created for a comic I was going to write years ago. Her name is Reality Check, because she due to a freak accident she lives simultaneously in two different realities. She can pull inorganic items from one side to the other, as well as forcing herself (though it is a conscious effort) to exist only on one for a time. gets really annoying when you have to avoid people in two different places at once, and the building in one world is a foot and a half farther over than the same building in the other! I loved the outfit and the slimline, elvish look to her. The only reason I never finished the book was 1) I can't draw consistantly (or men) and 2) the artist i got to illustrate for me kind of had a shorter, more buxom image of her, and then moved on me. The split image is where I combined two pics in one to save gallery space. The second image is just a costume/character sketch and the second she is coming home from a fight a little the worse for wear. i know remember why I did this one, I have a study i did using her in several poses of injury or stages of fight, and i think this came out of that. I thought it was an interesting pose and very emotional. feel free to tell me what you think, or to recommend a background. I've tried a couple of different, unsuccessful backgrounds seen through the door as well as the room she is entering, but never really liked any of them. (I've since tweaked with the natural paper coloring and the pure white to make some delineation which I think compliments the styling.

It's good to stray from the typical superheroine figure, and looking at her you can tell she's beautiful but something seems to pain her. But she looks like it'd take a whole lot to break her down, and that's also so beautiful about her. Sandra Leigh Wagner replies: "Thank you, really. You picked up one of her most appealing characteristics, her tragedies. I had an artist friend do sketches for Mercy (that's Reality's real name, Mercy Winters) and her friends, but his version of her was so much more voluptuous and I liked the lean elven look of mine better! and his hair was poofier. Glad someone finally commented on her."
| 28 Jun 2003 | Kim Lundin | It must be hard to be at two different places AT THE SAME TIME. Sandra Leigh Wagner replies: "yeah. when she's more solidly in one she's like a ghost in the other, barely seen, but she aways sees both, one like a ghost of the other, though she is bound by the rules of both, like she can't walk through things. THough she can bring inanimates across with her. It takes some getting used to. One day I'll finish the comic book I was doing on her." | |
| 9 Nov 2003 | Hawke | This is fantastic. I love her outfit and her pure white eyes. The story about her is really origianl. I like it. Sandra Leigh Wagner replies: "thank you. I wanted to do this as a comic book, but never got anywhere with it." | |
| 30 Jun 2004 | Nick Williams | I like the wrinkiling of her suit and her eyes make her look souless and empty. nice work Sandra Leigh Wagner replies: "thanks! I've always been a bit fond of her" | |
| 27 Jan 2007 | Niamh | Hey hey! This is great! Drawing consistantly is a bugger, isn't it? Well, for me it is. You should seriously consider creating a graphic novel about reality check! I'd buy it! She's so...up front, yet mysterious. And I love the tall elven look about her. And I completely agree with you about a more volumptious look not suiting her- that to me would'nt reveal clues in her stance about the tradgedies in her past. I was just wandering, does Mercy have a job and if so, could you tell me what it is? Love ya- you are fantastic. Sandra Leigh Wagner replies: "yes it is. I don't know if I could. my muse gets bored quickly. I love that you noticed that about her. I have some of the original comic done, but don't know where off the top. Yes she did. She was a French chef" | |
